Who runs this

Benchouse is built and run by André Baaij.

I was Head of Data at Babylist, where I built and led the data organisation to around twenty people across engineering, analytics and the platform underneath all of it. Before that I spent four years at MIcompany (now Rewire), installing data infrastructure and building data teams for ecommerce, fintech and telecom companies. Today I run Thelix, a fractional data leadership practice.

I built Benchouse because I kept being asked which analytics agent to buy, and the only answers available came from vendor demos. Nobody was measuring whether these tools get the number right against data they had never seen. So I built a warehouse where the answers could be withheld and ran the agents against it.

Independence

No vendor pays to be listed, sees the questions in advance, or reviews results before publication. Sponsorship, where it exists, never touches the question bank, the judge or the ranks. The funding policy sets out what a sponsor can and cannot buy, and sponsor-vendors are disclosed next to their own entries.

Every number carries a receipt recording its run id, universe seed and exact command, so a result can be reproduced instead of taken on trust. The methodology sets out how the grading works and where it can go wrong.

Disclosure

I run a data consulting practice, and I sell analytics-agent evaluations to companies assessing their own stack. Benchouse also raises my professional profile. Those are interests worth knowing about when you read the results.

Thelix builds on platforms made by companies whose products appear on this bench, Snowflake among them. No vendor on the bench is a Thelix client. Buying an evaluation from me does not affect placement on this board. The bench runs a fixed question bank against a withheld ledger, so there is no lever to pull. If a vendor on the bench ever becomes a client, that will be disclosed here and next to their entry before their next result is published.
